One Carol Every Year
for 10 years
Every year the BBC Radio 3 holds a Carol Competition. I am, alas, ineligible to participate due to my job, but I find the texts they choose wonderfully thought provoking.
I wrote my first carol in 2021 and loved the process. The aim is to write a collection of them over 10 years at a level that is suitable for performance by schools the nation over. For a flavour of what's going on, here is a demo of the 2022 carol.
Carols
2021 - 'Love Came Down at Christmas'
A 4-part carol for SATB and piano accompaniment with lyrics from Christina Rossetti's poem. Moderate difficulty for a secondary school choir.
2022 - 'The Winter's Brightening'
A simple, one-part Treble/Soprano carol for Primary School or Year 7 pupils with piano accompaniment. Lyrics by Niall Campbell. Easy level of difficulty.
